July 2021: Dance Matters!

​

“Financial Issues for Dance Schools” was a Dance Matters! presentation for Dance Business Lab. It was based on four topics chosen in advance by those attending and structured in 20-minute segments, including 5 minutes for Q&A:

 

  • Business structures – Sole trader or limited company

  • Liability to VAT - and how to approach it

  • Business expenses - allowable and disallowable

  • Engaging freelancers – terms of engagement

 

On completion, the presentation provided attendees with:

 

  • An understanding of the business structures available

  • An exploration of the advantages, disadvantages and differences between Sole Trader and a limited Company

  • An introduction to VAT, its applicability and exemptions available

  • An understanding of the financial terminology in accounts preparation

  • An awareness of some of the contractual issues when engaging freelancers
